Seven Congress members resign in Sikkim
Gangtok, May 28 (UNI) Seven Congress workers, including executive member Biraj Adhikari, have resigned from the party in protest against the alleged failure of Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee (SPCC) to properly represent the aspirations of Sikkimese people.
''We feel that under the leadership of its president Nar Bahadur Bhandari, the SPCC has become directionless in today's context and there are no party activities for the people,'' Mr Adhikari told reporters.
''Basically we feel the SPCC does not represent the true aspirations of the Sikkimese anymore, '' he added.
The directionless activities of the SPCC had further become evident with the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) becoming a member of the Congress-led UPA coalition government at the Centre, Mr Adikhari alleged.
There was no strategy in the SPCC as to how to tackle the matters at the Centre and what should be done at the state level to counter that move, Mr Adhikari further alleged.
''We had tried to reform the party from inside and tried to involve the party into more useful activities,'' said Mr Adikhari.
Contemplating on their future move, Mr Adikhari said, ''We are actively negotiating with like-minded politicians from various parties and soon we will come up with a definite line of action.'' Two SPCC heavyweights Sherhang Subba and Sonam Chyoda Lepcha had already resigned from the party earlier.
