Seven arrested for condcting camp in Kolleru lake area
Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, May 28 (UNI) The city police arrested seven people, including a journalist on the charge of creating law and order at the Kolleru lake area in the district today.
According to official sources, the West Godavari unit of the Lok Satta conducted a training camp today to explain its members on how to conduct a people's ballot seeking the opinion of kolleru lake area villages on dismantling of fish ponds in the world famous fresh water lake for protecting the environment on the directive of the Supreme Court.
While the camp was in progress police entered the place and took into custody seven people, including Lok Satta district K Ramachandra Rao, K Krishnamurthy Raju, K Sriramachandra Murthy, Arif Khan and P Krishnamurty for holding a meeting and conducting training camps in the Kolleru lake area without prior permission from the officials concerned.
Criticising the police action, D Somasundar, Editor 'Janabalam,' a magazine of Lok Satta and Vice President of Andhra Pradesh Union of Working journalist, who took part in the camp and arrested told UNI that the Lok Satta was going to conduct the ballot in a democratic way as part of their programme.
