No more late night power cuts in UP
Varanasi, May 28 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Power Minister Shiv Pal Singh Yadav today announced a freeze on late night power cuts in the state.
Addressing a function in the Varuna Bridge area here this evening, Mr Yadav said that the power situation had improved remarkably, following which late night power cuts will now be stopped.
Though the Centre had ditched UP by only releasing 50 MW of power against the demanded 600 MW, the electricity generation in the state which was now pegged at 2600 MW has helped in mitigating the crisis like situation, he said.
Mr Yadav, also the PWD Minister, said the Mulayam Singh Yadav government had resolved to make Varanasi a fully developed city. He informed that funds worth more than 36 crore have been sanctioned for the construction of quality roads in the district.
Mr Yadav also announced a sum of Rs one crore towards the Olympian Vivek Singh Mini Stadium on the outskirts of the city.
Later, Mr Yadav laid the foundation of a ghat-cum-open air theatre on the banks of the Varuna river which bisects the holy city.
Besides, the minister also laid the foundation of the ruling Samajwadi Party office.
Earlier, he also, laid the foundation of a road bridge over the Ganga river in Baluaghat area of neighbouring Chandauli district.
The new bridge to be constructed at a cost of Rs five crore, will connect Varanasi and Chandauli, reducing the burden of traffic on the two other bridges connecting the two districts.
The Power Minister also assured availability of 16 hours of power to villages of Chandauli district. He informed that a sum of Rs 54 crore has been released for the development of the district.
Mr Yadav also said that 28 new bridges including four on Ganga and three each on Yamuna and Ghaghra river will be constructed in the state.
