Naxals trigger landmine blast in Gadchiroli, two cops injured
Nagpur, May 28 (UNI) Two police constables, accompayning special anti-naxalites squad, were today injured in a landmine blast triggered by a group of naxals in the remote area of Chandrakhandi village in Etapalli taluka of Gadchiroli district.
Gadchiroli police said, members of anti-naxalites squad were engaged in detecting bombs and clearing road blocks by removing felled trees when the landmine planted by the naxalites was triggered.
The naxalites had given a three-day 'Bharat Bandh Call' and yesterday was the last day of the bandh during which they indulged in several desruptive activities in the district which were foiled by the police.
The injured constables have been identified as Baliram Narote and Sampat Padoti, both of whom have been brought to Nagpur and admitted to a local hospital here.
The police spotted the naxals, when the landmine blast occurred, and chased them while firings few rounds of bullets. However, the naxalites managed to escape in the thick of the junge, police added.
