Modi unveils 13-foot tall bronze statue of Savarkar
Mumbai, May 28 (UNI) Freedom fighter Veer Savarkar is an inexaustible source of inspiration for the youth of today, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today said.
He was speaking after unveiling a 13-feet tall bronze statue of the freedom fighter at Veer Savarkar Udyan at Borivali near here this evening. The statue, sculpted by Uttam Pacharne, is dubbed to be the tallest statue of Veer Savarkar in the country.
The occasion was the 123rd birth anniversary of the revolutionary Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
History and the future will always remember the contributions of Veer Savarkar, Mr Modi said. He, however, took a dig at the Congress saying the party had ignored the contributions of Savarkar.
Referring to the First War of Independence in 1857, Mr Modi said the Hindus and Muslims, then, had fought against the British together. However, that fact has been ignored by the so-called secularists, he ridiculed.
Mr Modi, while expressing grief over the killings of tourists from Gujarat in Kashmir, said the country needs to practise Savarkar's vision of unity.
