Meghalaya govt to decide fate of 'The Da Vinci Code' tomorrow

Shillong, May 28 (UNI) The Meghalaya government will decide tomorrow on whether to ban the controversial Hollywood blockbuster 'The Da Vinci Code,' as several church leaders have raised their voice against screening of the movie in the state.

General Administration Department (GAD) Minister H D R Lyngdoh would hold discussions with the department officials tomorrow to arrive at a decision.

''I can tell you about the decision only after the meeting on Monday,'' Mr Lyngdoh told reporters here yesterday.

''The pulse of the majority of the people will be gauged before taking the final decision,'' he said.

Several prominent church leaders in Christian majority Meghalaya have demanded to put a ban on the film, even as the film hit the theatres elsewhere in the country following the clearance from the central government.

''We are against the film as its content is blasphemous,'' said Rev Dominic Jala, Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church.
