Lara bacame captain only because of Board President: Cozier
Port of Spain, May 28 (UNI) Despite hailing Brian Lara as the main catalyst behind West Indies' ODI series win over India, veteran sports writer Tony Cozier said the southpaw became captain only because of the Board President.
''He was neither the selectors' choice nor the preference of some board directors. But board president Ken Gordon saw experience and a new maturity in the ageing superstar that was absent from other candidates,'' Cozier wrote in his column for ''Daily Nation.'' Cozier said Lara's short-term stint as captain had attracted disapproval and criticism from various quarters as he did not provide convincing leadership in his two earlier stints when he had allowed himself ''and was allowed'' to be distracted by issues unrelated to the game.
