Inzamam will lead Pakistan in 2007 World Cup: PCB

Lahore, May 28 (UNI) While skeptics might claim that Inzamam-ul Haq would be too old to lead Pakistan in the World Cup but the country's cricket board begs to differ, saying that the burly Multan player is the best man to captain the side in West Indies next year.

''Unless there is any injury or illness, I firmly believe Inzamam would be our captain for the World Cup,'' Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Director of Cricket Operations Saleem Altaf told ''The News''.

Board Chairman Shaharyar Khan and Director of Operations Abbas Zaidi have also backed the batting maestro as Pakistan's captain for the World Cup. The Board has made him the skipper till the end of this year but the PCB officials are still considering whether he should get another extension after the home series against the West Indies.

''Who else can be a better choice to lead Pakistan than Inzamam,'' Altaf said adding, ''he is a top class cricketer who knows how to lead from the front.'' UNI XC PG PDS RK1545
