CPI condemns BJP for demanding apology from Aamir Khan
New Delhi, May 28 (UNI) The CPI today lambasted the BJP for demanding an apology from Bollywood actor Aamir Khan for his alleged disparaging remarks against the party on the Narmada dam issue, saying it smacked of ''fascist intolerance which bodes ill for democracy''.
The CPI Central Secretariat, in a statement, said the BJP is notorious for making disparaging remarks against other parties at the slightest provocation.
''The BJP spokesman even questiones the right of anybody to speak about the rehabilitation of Narmada oustees and arrogantly remarks that 'he is an actor, not a politicians. What does he know about rehabilitation?'', the statement said.
The CPI said everybody knew ''how the BJP drags scores of actors to its political platform during elections,'' adding: ''Presumably, these actors know everything.'' The party said it strongly condemned the BJP's attitude and demanded that the latter give it up. ''It reveals the brand of fascist intolerance which bodes ill for democracy.'' UNI/SKS LS PM1525
