World famous ski resort of Gulmarg again connected with Srinagar

Srinagar, May 27 (UNI) The world famous ski and tourist resort of Gulmarg was today again connected with the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir after army reconstructed the Kunzar bridge.

The bridge on Ferozpur Nallah, connecting Gulmarg with Srinagar, collapsed on May 1 due to heavy rains disrupting normal traffic to the ski resort. The tourists had to take a longer route to reach Gulmarg.

However, the Army came to rescue and accepted the challenge. The reconnaissance team of 4 Engineer Regiment of the Army visited the site and offered service for reconstruction of the bridge at a new site on the downstream. The authorities immediately mobilised resources and commenced the construction.

A team of Armymen of 15 Corps under the leadership of Lt Col Anil Abraham arrived at the site on May 19 and got on to the task of extrication of the bridge along with the civilians.

Heavy Army recovery vehicles, civil cranes and skills of 4 Engineer Regiment in masterminding the extrication bore fruits and the bridge was pulled out from the Nallah on May 22. Later, the bridge was dismantled under the close supervision of Army Engineers and launched at the new site on May 24.

The Army Engineers have constructed several bridges on arterial roads in the Valley thus connecting people with each other.
