Medical services hit badly as strike enters 13th day

Chandigarh, May 27 (UNI) Medical services in most of the government and private medical colleges in Punjab, Haryana and this Union Territory were hit adversely on the thireenth consecutive day today as resident doctors and medical students continued their stir against reservation.

Medical services were affected in PGIMER and Government Medical College and Hospital here as the strike continued. Resident doctors and medical students from PGIMER and GMCH and non-medicos-- students from Panjab University, Punjab Engineering College and various schools took out a procession and burnt the effigy of HRD Minister Arjun Singh.

Later, a front, Freedom-PGIMER North India Chapter,attended by delegates from different organisation, like IIT, Dehli, GMC, Amritsar, Infosys, GH-16, GMCH-32, IIM, UIET, PU, PEC, PGIMS, Rohtak and other organisations prepared a charter of demands to be presented to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

In Amritsar, medical services were affected at Guru Nanak Hospital, SGPC run Guru Ram Dass Institute of Medical Services and Research following the strike by resident doctors and students.

Medical services at Dayananad Medical College (DMC), Lord Mahavira Homeopathy Institute and Baba Jaswant Singh Dental College in Ludhiana were also badly affected due to the strike.

However, Christian Medical College (CMC) continued to function normally.

Medical services at PGIMS, Rohtak were also hit as resident doctors and medical students continued with their strike.

In Patiala, the OPD services were affected as medical students, with interns and junior doctors of Government Medical College, Government Ayurvedic College, Government Dental College and Government Rajindra Hospital continued the agitation.
