Lara refuses to relax, wants to win last match with reserve players
Port of Spain, May 27 (UNI) As if sealing the five-match series was not enough, West Indies captain Brian Lara plots another humiliation and plans to go into tomorrow's fifth and final match against India hoping to win it with reserve players.
On a high after leading the side to a 5-0 whitewash of Zimbabwe and now an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series, Lara refuses to relax and said, ''It's not a dead match. We are on the road to get ourselves ready for the World Cup. First we have the ICC (Champions Trophy) tournament after this and we are looking forward to that.
It is important that we keep the distance between ourselves and India.'' ''We know that they are without a couple of their best players but I think it is important that we continue winning,'' he told reporters after the hosts beat India by six wickets in the penultimate ODI to pocket the series.
Lara revealed he would be fielding as many fringe players possible in the final tie to test the bench strength.
''I am quite happy with the performance of the guys so far and it now makes for us the game on Sunday very, very important because we are going to try, I suppose, some of our reserves.'' ''And if we can beat India with that, I think it shows that we are clearly a better team,'' Lara added.
