Irregularities in govt. schemes, Vigilance initiated action
Bhubaneswar, May 27 (UNI) Orissa Vigilance department has initiated lawful action against 150 government officials, who were allegedly involved in misappropriation of government funds, official sources said here today.
Most of these cases were related to the misappropriation and misutilisation of government funds meant for the poor people during implementation of different poverty alleviation programmes launched in rural areas.
The Vigilance department has registered 101 number of cases, of which 47 were related to irregularities in allotment of Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) houses while 50 cases were registered in connection with irregularities in construction and renovation of village roads under Prime Minister Gramya Sadaka Yojana/ Sampurna Gramina Rozgar Yojana (S.G.R.Y) and Food for work programmes.
In all these cases which also included the recycling of BPL rice about 150 officials were involved. Besides 24 public servants and 72 private individuals were also involved, official sources said.
Charge sheets of 34 cases have been submitted for trial in a court while 52 cases were pending investigation. So far, 34 persons including 18 government officials have been arrested and forwarded to the judicial custody.
