India's Udyog lone bidder in Bangla sugar tender

Dhaka, May 27 : V.K. Udyog was the only bidder in a Bangladesh tender to import 20,000 tonnes of white sugar, offering a price of 6.50 per tonne, officials said on Saturday.

The tender was issued by state-owned Trading Corporation of Bangladesh, which is reviewing the offer, they said.

If accepted, the sugar would be supplied to Bangladesh from India by train.

Bangladesh has scraped four international bids to buy 25,000 tonnes, 15,000 tonnes, 10,000 tonnes and 25,000 tonnes of white sugar since last March, citing high prices.

Lowest prices quoted in those offers were 8.85, 8.75, 7 and 2 per tonne, respectively, on a cost and freight basis, the officials said.
