Gurez relinked to Kashmir after five winter months

Srinagar, May 27 (UNI) After remaining closed for five months due to heavy snowfall, the remote border area of Gurez was today reconnected with the rest of the state following the reopening of the Razdan Pass.

The army and Border Roads Organisation (BRO) cleared the ten to 15 feet snow on the Razdan pass, situated at 12,600 feet with the help of sophisticated snow clearance machines as well as personnel.

With the opening of the pass, the people of Bandipora-Dawar- Chakwall would now be able to restore their communication after five long months.

The first coloumn of vehicle with supplies of essential commodities reached Dawar from Bandipore.

The people of this secluded region of Kashmir valley not only withstood harsh winters and isolation but also remained deprived of essential services like medical and communication due to closure of the Pass.

However, units of Indian Army and the team of Army doctors camping in Gurez valley were their sole saviour during that period.

The people while expressing happiness on opening of the road were hopeful that summer will usher in development and progress in the valley and reduce their suffering during the coming winters.

A defence ministry spokesman said army engineers deployed in Gurez valley have executed an indomitable task of opening the road axis to Dawar in a record time.
