Chennai, May 27 (UNI) Alleging rampant corruption during the previous AIADMK regime, Congress legislator C Gnanasekaran today demanded the DMK government to constitute an inquiry commission to look into it.

Participating in the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor for his address, he alleged that corruption was rampant and there were irregularities galore in almost every department during the previous AIADMK regime.

He said the ministers in the previous government had amassed wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income, in their own name and in the name of their family members, and demanded action against them.

Mr Gnanasekaran said the DMK government should not spare the culprits and demanded stringent action against them. ''Whoever they may be, the government should proceed against them as per law and bring them to book'', he said, amid thumping of desks from the treasury benches.

He did not spare the bureaucrats either and alleged that they too had amassed wealth and wanted the Government to constitute another commission to estimate their wealth.

Referring to AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa attending the House all alone in the wake of suspension of 60 AIADMK members, Mr Gnanasekaran recalled that it was the same Jayalalithaa who had initially announced that she would stay away from the House due to security reasons.

''The fact that she attended the House and went safely proved that the government headed by M Karunanidhi is for providing protection to the members of the House'', he added.
