Baichung Bhutia named best player of NFL

New Delhi, May 27 (UNI) Indian captain Baichung Bhutia has been named as the best player and best forward for the 10th edition of the National Football League.

The East Bengal striker will receive Rs 50,000 for the twin awards.

Mahindra United, Mumbai, swept the other individual awards with Sandip Nandi, Mahesh Gawli and Sanmughan Venkatesh declared the best goalkeeper, best defender and best midfileder. Each of them will get Rs 25,000, according to an All India Football Federation release.

Mahindra United will get Rs 40 lakh for winning the tournament, while runners-up East Bengal will pocket Rs 22 lakhs and JCT Mills Rs 1 lakh as Fair Play award.

Ranty Martins of Dempo Sports Club, Goa, became the highest scorer with 14 goals and he will receive Rs 50,000 for his effort.
