Traffic Police to help finalise Action Plan congestion
New Delhi, May 26 (UNI) Delhi Urban Development and PWD Minister A K Walia today called for a coordinated effort and a workable action plan to overcome acute problem of traffic congestion on city roads and determination of sites for construction of foot over bridges and zebra crossings for the convenience of pedestrians.
Dr Walia gave this direction in a meeting convened to consider urgent effective measures to overcome difficulties arising out of long traffic jams.
He directed Delhi Traffic Police to provide help in finalising such action plan.
Dr Walia was sympathetic to the demand raised by Resident Welfare Associations and trade organisations of New Rohtak Road, to construct an elevated road from Liberty Cinema Chowk to Anand Parbat, which was most of the time found to be locked in long traffic jams.
Dr Walia said issue of an elevated road on New Rohtak Road was part of proposed seven new corridors to be constructed in run up for 2010 Commonwealth Games.
The entire New Rohtak Road right from Jhandewalan to Punjabi Bagh would become congestion-free with coming up of an elevated road from Liberty Cinema Chowk to Anand Parbat, which would provide relief to the large number of commuters.
This road was quite strategic as it links Central Delhi with North-West Delhi.
The meeting was attended by Public Works Department Engineer-in-Chief, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), senior officials from Delhi Police, senior engineers from Municipal Corporation of Delhi and MLA Rajesh Lilothia.
