Rajasthan launches unique educational project

Jaipur, May 26: Rajasthan has launched a unique participatory project 'Janbodh Karyakram' as part of its Education initiative.

Envisaged to cover 324 deprived localities of Jaipur, the project is a collective endeavour of the state government, the communities and an NGO-the Bodh Shiksha Samiti. The Janbodh Karyakram under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) is likely to benefit 80,000 children in the 0-5 age group, 1,00,000 children in 6-14 age group and 20,000 adolescent girls.

There are four schools which are working as resource centres for various other schools, namely in Gokulpuri, Amagarh in Nagtalai, Guru Tegh Bahadur Basti and Baba Ramdev Nagar.

The USP of the project is the involvement of the deprived community in building the school and even in taking any decision regarding the school, informs Ramesh Bora, senior fellow associate of the project.

These schools do not follow the blackboard culture and the teachers are like elder sisters or brothers to the students. After four hours of teaching through various innovative means, a teacher must visit the house of two children every day and meet his or her parents.

The Janbodh Karyakram is a follow-up on the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Principal Secretary, School, C K Mathew, Sanskrit Education, Rajasthan and Mr Yogendra, secretary, Bodh Shiksha Samiti in October, 2005.
