Office-of-profit: K'taka to bring in amendments

Bangalore, May 26 (UNI) The Karnataka Legislature will be convened for a day on June 5 to bring in an amendment to the Karnataka Legislature (Prevention of Disqualification) Act, 1957, in line with the Parliament Amendment Bill on holding of office-of-profit.

Informing this in a post-Cabinet media briefing here today, Medical Education Minister V S Acharya said the Cabinet unanimously agreed to bring in the amendment, which sought to exempt more posts from the purview of office of profit.

The posts to be exempted were Deputy Minister, Parliamentary Secretary, Corporation Mayor and Deputy Mayor, Zilla Panchayat President and Vice-President, and Chairman and members of statutory committees, he said.

Parliament had passed the Amendment Bill on May 16 to bring an end to the controversy over the office-of-profit issue.
