NHRC seeks thorough examination on reservations
New Delhi, May 26: National Human Rights Commission today urged the government to get the issue of reservation thoroughly examined so that fairness and justice is not denied to any section or class of the society.
Reacting to media reports that showed some of the students and doctors, on hunger strike, being removed for medical care, the commission described the reservation issue as a complex one, a statement said.
The commission felt that the government should ensure a balanced and orderly development of all sections and classes of society while implementing its policy.
Expressing concern over the deteriorating health of students and doctors who were on hunger strike in protest against the proposed increase in reservation quota, the commission also expressed its concern for the denial of health care facilities to the sick and ailing due to strike in government hospitals.
The commission had earlier sought factual report from Delhi and Mumbai Police Commissioners about the brutal police action against striking medical and engineering students.
Even as the commission was awaiting their response, the latest media reports showed that some of the students and doctors on hunger strike had to be removed for emergency medical care.
At the same time, the NHRC also appealed to the doctors to resume their work in the interest of ailing patients and asked those who were on hunger strike to call off their stir.
