Mobile health clinics to serve MP tribal areas

Bhopal, May 26 (UNI) Mobile health clinics aimed at serving the people in tribal areas was launched in Madhya Pradesh today.

In the first phase, 11 mobile clinics each intended to operate in a tribal block were flagged off by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan here today.

Named as Deendayal Arogya Rath, each clinic, comprising one doctor, a nurse and a compounder, would operate six days a week. It will be equipped with facilities for antenatal and postpartem tests, besides immunisation.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Chouhan said efforts would be made to expand the scheme to at least 100 blocks in the first year itself.

Former Union Minister Sushma Swaraj, who is a Rajya Sabha member from Madhya Pradesh, said the Health Ministry had cleared sanction of Rs 355 crore for setting up a unit of All India Institute of Medical Science at Bhopal.

The mobile clinics will supplement the primary health centres in interior areas, she said, adding private participation in health sector was imperative.

State Health Minister Ajay Bishnoi said the mobile clinics would routinely cover weekly Haat Bazars.
