Mercury rises to 44 degrees celsius at Hissar
Chandigarh, May 26 (UNI) Scorching hot weather conditions prevailed in the northwest India as the mercury kept its upward movement, staying above normal at most places in the region today.
People in Hissar groaned under intense heat with the maximum touching 44 degrees celsius, turning it the hottest place in Haryana. However, the mercury hovered two degrees below normal at Ambala showing 38.7 degrees celsius.
In Punjab, Amritsar reeled under 43.2 degrees, three degrees above normal, while Ludhiana recorded 42.0 degrees. Patiala, however, reported two degrees below normal temperature at 39.4 degrees.
The temperature also rose in Himachal Pradesh with state capital Shimla recording 26.0 degrees, two degrees above normal. Bhuntar in Kullu district recorded 34.5 degrees, three degrees above normal, while Sundernagar in Mandi district registered 35.1 degrees. Kalpa recorded 24.4 degrees.
The mercury further rose in Chandigarh to 39.0 degrees from 37.8 degrees recorded yesterday.
Yesterday's western disturbance over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir persisted as upper air cyclonic circulation extended upto 4.5 km above sea level, according to the weather Office here.
The Induced upper air cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan and adjoining northwest Rajasthan and southwest Punjab also persisted and extended upto 900 metres above sea level with an upper air trough extending south eastwards from it to north east Madhya Pradesh.
The weather office has predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers at few places in Himachal Pradesh and duststorm or thunderstorm with light to moderate rain at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana during the next 24 hours. Hailstorm or thundersquall with wind speed exceeding 65 km per hour is likely to occur at isolated places in the region during the period.
