L R A Narayan bags Geospatial Lifetime Achievement Award
Bangalore, May 26 (UNI) National Remote Sensing Agency professional surveyor L R A Narayan has been conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Indian Geospatial Awards 2005 for his extraordinary contributions in the fields of surveying, cartography, photogrammetry and remote sensing applications.
Dr Narayan, an environmentalist and geographer par excellence, had carried out several surveys and mapping projects, especially the successful project in the North East during the Chinese aggression.
Rolta India bagged the Geospatial Company of the Year award for leading the Indian geospatial industry and providing top class geo-engineering and Geographic Information System (GIS) solutions and services in the country and across the world.
The Ministry of Agriculture was conferred the Award of Excellence for Geospatial Usage for its enthusiasm and commitment in utilising geospatial technologies through the implementation of Crop Acreage and Production Estimation project across the country. The award was also given to the National Institute of Health and Family Welfare and the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, for using geospatial technologies for implementing the Annual Sentinel Surveillance Information System for HIV project.
Speaking after giving away the annual awards, instituted by 'Spatial India' magazine in recognition of those who had contributed in spreading knowledge in the geospatial industry, here last night, Planning Commission Member Secretary Rajiv Ratan Shah said, the awards would bring together the whole industry to applaud the companies and people achieving highest standards in the segment and contributing to the growth and development of the fledgling spatial industry in the country.
On the occasion, the first-ever Indian Geospatial Industry survey report was released by Mr Shah. The report broadly focussed on identifying key industry trends in the Indian Geospatial Industry and details of market potential and forecasts for the industry. It also spread light on information on different parts of geospatial industry such as geospatial data, services including remote sensing, products and export of geospatial services from India.
Spatial Networks Publication Director Ramprasad, who was also present, said GIS industry's growth was being driven by rapidly spreading the use of mapping and spatial data technology in brand new disciplines by customers, representing new industries, markets and applications.
