K'taka to set up Aqua Park for breeding ornamental fish

Bangalore, May 26 (UNI) The Karnataka Government will develop an Aqua Park at Hesaraghatta on the outskirts of the city for breeding ornamental fish to exploit the demand for the variety at international markets, Fisheries Minister B Nagaraj Shetty informed today.

Talking to reporters here, he said the Aqua Park, to come up on 16 acres of land, would be developed with private participation.

Stating that there was a vast scope for export of ornamental fish to Western countries, he said the project would be implemented by taking technological support from Israel.

He said the details of the project would be worked out soon to establish the Park within one year.

The Minister also informed that the Fisheries College at Ullal would be revived and special attention given for providing training on development of ornamental fish.

Mr Shetty, also holding the Horticulture portfolio, said the Centre had cleared its proposal for starting of a Floriculture Park in Belgaum. The work on the project would commence soon, he added.

He said 15 districts had been selected under the National Horticulture Mission for growing 11 crops.
