HMS to take lead to merge all Trade Unions

Kochi, May 26: The Hind Mazdoor Sangh (HMS) has decided to take the lead to merge all the trade unions in the country, cutting across political affiliations.

The decision to take the lead to merge trade unions was with a view to securing labour rights, HMS president Thampan Thomas said.

Briefing newsmen here today about the recent national executive meeting, he said the meeting expressed concern over the anti-labour judgements by various courts in recent times.

The meeting urged the Centre to keep the promise to appoint the sixth pay commission and not to push the Railways and the public sector employees into more agaitations by delaying the setting up of the commission.

The Hind Mazdoor Sangh deplored the ongoing anti-reservation stir, terming it as a move to bring back caste system in the country. It urged all concerned not to divide the country on the reservation issue.

''The backward communities should get their quota to fulfill social justice, guaranteed by the Constitution. Those who complete their higher professional education at the expense of the Government are increasingly going out to serve the foreign countries,'' he said.
