HC order on appointment of 10 teachers for Tihar inmates
New Delhi, May 26 (UNI) The Delhi High Court directed the 5-member-panel, on Tihar reforms today to appoint 10 teachers to introduce the jail's inmates to primary education as well as vocational training.
The division bench headed by Justice Manmohan Sarin gave the directive after receiving the proposal from the 5-member-panel.
The jail administration sources said that the teachers would be recruited from the National Open Schools.
Appearing more keen on putting the matter on fast track, Justice Sarin observing that it are consciously avoiding disturbing the committee. Pending further evaluation of detailed projects, we are of the view that the DG should immediately start adult education, literacy programmes, expand vocational training by recruiting teachers for Directorate of Adult Education and Department of Technical Education to impart training later." The proposal envisages setting up classes for the inmates of Jail 5 and those of 6. If the programme were found to suffer from any handicap, the panel would have enough teeth to remove it, the judge said, dispelling fears expressed by Susheel Salwan, another member on the board.
''The Important thing is to set the ball rolling and remove the irritants on the way rather than to spend years on deliberating upon the probable problems which may not prove to be real at all,'' Justice Sarin observed.
