HC denies more time to UP for holding local bodies polls
Allahabad, May 26 (UNI) Allahabad High Court today rejected the applications of Uttar Pradesh government as well state election commission demanding extension of the time period for holding election to local bodies.
A division bench comprising Justices R K Agrawal and Saroj Bala dismissed the applications after hearing state advocate general S M A Kazmi.
The government had sought the extension after the same bench, in the case of Anugrah Narain Singh on December 22, 2005, had directed for holding of the polls within six months.
Rejecting the application, the court said UP was under obligation to comply with the HC order for holding the local bodies elections within six months.
The bench said more than sufficient time had been given to the government in this regard.
