Damaged Indo-Bangla border fencing to be replaced
Aizawl, May 26 (UNI) The Centre has decided to replace the damaged 854 km fencing along the Indo-Bangla border here as per the new modified design.
Official sources here today informed that about 854- km of fencing constructed under phase-I was found to be damaged at most of the stretches along the border.
Due to this reason, the fencing construction during phase-I ceased to be effective in controlling illegal cross border activities.
Apart from this, during the phase-I, the fencing was constructed as per the old design.
Currently, fencing in phase-II is being done along these borders as per the new modified design of barbed wire fencing, which is far more effective in controlling illegal infiltration and cross border terrorism.
The work is scheduled to start in the coming months.
''Phase-II of the Indo-Bangla border fencing involves work in 2429 km of area,'' the official sources said, adding in order to expedite the construction of fencing, several construction agencies, including National Building Construction Corporation and Border Roads Organisation, have been engaged.
