18 Commonwealth Parliamentary Association to meet from May 28th
New Delhi, May 26 (UNI) The seven day 18th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) meet will begin from May 28 at Turk and Caicos Islands, about 600 miles from Miami.
The Indian delegation will be led by Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Charnjit Singh Atwal, who left for the venue today, according to a release from his office.
The meet will focus on 13 different topics which include the history and role of the Commonwealth and the CPA, Parliamentary democracy in the Caribbean Region, the role of the Speaker and Parliamentary staff, members of Parliament and the political parties, parliamentary ethics -- transparency and accountability, the relationship between Parliament and the people and Parliament- the executive and the public services.
The meet will also discuss issuess like HIV/AIDS and Human Rights.
Mr Atwal will speak on " The role of the Speaker and the Parliamentary Staff".
The Deputy Speaker left for Turk and Caicos today from Mumbai, said a release issued from the office of the Deputy speaker of Lok Sabha.
