YSR concerned over increase in mishaps

Hyderabad, May 25 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today expressed concern over the increase in road accident cases in the state.

At a high-level review meeting held in his chambers in the Secretariat, the Chief Minister directed the Chief Secretary to discuss measures with officials on avoiding such accidents and come out with a practical action plan in two to three days.

He instructed the officials to be more vigilant and punish traffic rule offenders severely. The Chief Minister also agreed to the request of the officials to extend the power of penalising the 'visible' offenders to sub-inspector level.

Hitherto this was limited only upto the cadre of Circle inspector only. The visible offenders include lorry drivers, maxi cabs, auto rickshaw drivers who carry overloads and carrying passengers on top among others.

The driver's licence should be cancelled if he committed an offence more than three times, and for the fourth offence he should be booked for congnizable offence, the Chief Minister stated.
