Sudan says wants more talks on U.N. Darfur mission
KHARTOUM, May 25 (Reuters) Sudan has not agreed to allow U.N. troops into its violent Darfur region, the foreign minister today said, adding Khartoum wanted more discussions involving the United Nations and the African Union.
The statement came after three days of talks with high-level United Nations diplomats in Khartoum who had hoped to persuade Sudan to allow an assessment team into Darfur to prepare for a U.N.
peacekeeping mission there.
Top U.N. troubleshooter Lakhdar Brahimi and a senior U.N.
peacekeeping official, Hedi Annabi, are to meet President Omar Hassan al-Bashir later today. Many saw this as the world body's last chance to get a positive result.
