Renowned zoo expert calls for redesigning of Mysore Zoo
Mysore, May 25 (UNI) Internationally renowned Zoo expert and architect of the famous Singapore Zoo and Wildlife Park Bernard Harrison today opined that the century old Mysore zoo need to be completely redesigned.
Mr Harrison, who was shown around the zoo for over three hours today by its Executive Director R Manoj Kumar, made various suggestions, including changing the systems which were over 50 years old and covering concrete compounds of the enclosures with vegetation.
The Mysore Zoo has sought Mr Harrison's assistance for preparing a master plan for its development under the Union Government's Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.
Later, talking to reporters here, Mr Harrison expressed willingness to help in the development of the Mysore zoo and said ''It is a lovely old and well kept zoo. I can favourably compare it with the zoo in Singapore. It can be converted into the most modern zoo in the world,'' he added.
Stating that redesigning should not be a mere cosmetic change, Mr Harrison said vegetation, lushness and landscaping should also be changed.
Mr Kumar said the Zoo Authority of Karnataka was keen on engaging Mr Harrison as a consultant for preparing a detailed project report for the Mission. He was currently engaged in developing zoos in Pakistan, Abu Dhabi and Canada, he added.
