Normalcy in OIL operations, talks on May 26

Guwahati, May 25: After 72 hours of violence, normalcy returned in Oil India Limited (OIL) operations in Upper Asom as the contract workers returned to work and the management got ready for crucial talks tomorrow.

According to OIL sources a new pay package would be offered in tomorrow's meeting, which they think should be acceptable to the agitating employees.

The contract employees were unhappy over the low pay package and resorted to widespread violence in the past three days setting ablaze six abandoned wells used as affluent plants thereby affecting the production.

Realising the gravity, the OIL extended the olive branch late last night for a meeting which was accepted by the employees, who had suspended the agitation till the outcome of the talks.

Earlier, the Oil India Limited (OIL) was heading towards a major operational crisis with unidentified miscreants setting on fire three more oil wells on Tuesday night during the period of the ongoing indefinite operational area blockade called by the Wages Casual Contract Labourers (WCCL) of the company.

With this, the number of oil wells set ablaze had gone up to six.

Fortunately, all these were dead wells, which saved the company from a major disaster.
