Meghalaya govt to bring ordinance to create offices
Shillong, May 25 (UNI) The Congress-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government today decided to bring an ordinance to create several offices to appoint more important people in posts like Chairman, Co-Chairman and Vice Chairman of various Boards and Corporations.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting at Chief Minister D D Lapang's residence here today.
'' Meghalaya needed such an ordinance, since the Prevention of Disqualification (Members of the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya) Act 1972 is not sufficient to allow legislators to hold different types of posts, '' Mr Lapang told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.
The existing act did not mention posts like those of the Co-Chairman, Vice Chairman, Deputy Chairman, Head of Corporations and Joint Ventures etc, said the Chief Minister.
'' To cover all these categories, the Cabinet has agreed to have an ordinance since the Assembly is not in session, '' he said.
