K'taka takes note of unscientific deployment of doctors
Bangalore, May 25 (UNI) Taking serious note of unscientific deployment of specialised doctors in various departments, the Karnataka Government has decided to immediately redeploy them at district and taluk hospitals.
Informing this to reporters here today, Health and Family Minister R Ashok said his department had found as many as 160 specialised doctors holding ''mismatched'' positions in government departments.
He said he had already issued a circular for the transfer of 16 healthcare specialists working with the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) to places where they were needed most. These specialist staff with degrees in medicine, surgery, ENT and various other fields of healthcare had been working in administrative department of the BMP for the last several years, he added.
Many of the specialist departments in the districts and taluks were not functioning due to ''unscientific deployment of staff,'' he said.
He said his department had also planned to bring in a law to make it mandatory for PG medical students studying under government quota to work in government hospitals for three years. He was already in touch with the Law Department for drafting of the Bill.
Those failing to comply with the rules would face jail and also a penalty, he added.
