HC hauls up MCD for not removing speed breakers
New Delhi, May 25 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today hauled up the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for filing an allegedly wrong affidavit stating removal of more than 2500 unauthorised speed breakers from the capital's roads.
A division bench headed by acting Chief Justice Vijender Jain directed the Chief Engineer of the MCD to remove all the unauthorised speed breakers from the roads at the earliest and file a status report by September 5, the next date of hearing.
''The MCD has merely done an eyewash by removing some illegal speed breakers from the main roads and not from the arterial roads of the colonies,'' the petition said.
The Delhi Traffic Police had been directed to inspect the sites to verify the veracity of the action by the MCD officials.
Mr Harsh Aggarwal in an application stated that the MCD had filed a wrong affidavit stating that 2500 unauthorised speed breakers had been removed from the roads after the direction of the High Court.
The speed breakers at Sagar Ratna and Police Station in Paschim Vihar, near Petrol Pump in Shivaji Palace, Karam Pura and New Moti Nagar near post office, Block-46 and Metro Station in Patel Nagar were not removed contrary to the statement in the affidavit, said the application.
Even roads at many places were not repaired after the removal of the speed breakers, Mr Aggarwal said.
