Govt to monitor NREGA, Social assistance prog.

New Delhi, May 25 (UNI) The Ministry of Rural Development has proposed strict monitoring of implementation of various welfare schemes including National Rural Employment Guarantee Act and National Social Assistance Programme.

State Governments have been requested that the requiste material should be made available to the Vigilance and Monitoring Committees set up at the State and District level for this purpose.

Vigilance and Monitoring Committees have been urged to hold meetings regularly and send reports on the findings to the Ministry.

The Ministry has constituted Vigilance and Monitoring Committees as an instrument of effective implementation of rural development programmes.

Detailed guidelines on the composition, role and functions of these committees as well as instructions for conducting meetings have also been issued to the states and Union Territories.

While the State Committees are headed by Ministers of Rural Development in the States, District Vigilance and Monitoring Committees are headed by the Members of Parliament.

These committees are to liaison with the Ministry of Rural Development and state Governments to ensure that all schemes are implemented as per the guidelines issued.
