Delhi CNG use resulted in Rs 3040 cr savings in five yrs

New Delhi, May 25 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said that introduction of CNG in Delhi has led to savings of Rs 3040 crore over five years and called for enforcement of uniform CNG norms in the entire national capital region While speaking at the workshop on cost benefit assessment of CNG introduction in Delhi organised in Delhi Secretariat, she said that there is no restriction on entry of commercial vehicles not propelled by CNG in Delhi resulting in increase in pollution level She added that savings in respect of per kilometer running of buses is Rs 0.84, auto is Rs 0.79, taxis and cars Rs 1.31. Finiacial savings due to use of CNG cars and three wheelers is 62 per cent and buses is 62 per cent. Low price of CNG compared to Diesel, petrol and LPG results in savings.

She also said that a total of Rs 2723 crore has been spent on introduction of CNG in Delhi and that the number of CNG vehicles which was 26350 in 2001 increased to 94,039.

Delhi Environment Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan and Transport Minister Haroon Yusuf were present on the occasion. The study on cost benefit assessment has been conducted by Consultancy Development Centre.
