Armed men in uniform in private vehicles cause panic in Srinagar
Srinagar, May 25 (UNI) Panic gripped the downtown city when a message was flashed that some armed men in uniform were seen travelling in two private vehicles in the Soura area today.
However, later they turned out be security personnel on patrol.
Official sources said earlier a police patrol flagged down two private vehicles at Soura after some armed men in uniform were seen inside, on the outskirts today. But both the vehicles ignored the signal and headed towards the city.
They said a message was flashed that the vehicles ignored the signal. Later, after a long chase both the vehicles were intercepted by the police which found some security force officers on patrol were travelling in them.
On May 21, two fidyaeen in police uniform attacked a Congress rally at Sher-e-Kashmir Municipal park, near here, killing five people, including two police personnel, and injuring others, including three senior security officers.
Panic also gripped the high security Tulsi Bagh area near Bakshi stadium when a misfire injured a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan today.
