Terrorists arrested in Aurangabad booked under MCOCA
Mumbai, May 24 (UNI) The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the Mumbai Police today booked 11 suspected terrorists arrested from Aurangabad in connection with the seizure of a huge haul of explosives and arms under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
ATS Additional Commissioner of Police K P Raghuvanshi today produced all the 11 suspects before MCOCA Judge Abhay Thipsay and said investigations so far have revealed their involvement in the organised crime syndicate, and sought their further police custody.
Two of the arrested pleaded that they are merely the drivers of the vehicle and have nothing to do with the seizure of arms and amunition.
The judge, after hearing their plea, sent all of them to police custody till June six stating that investigations in the case are at a primary stage.
Those who were produced before the court today were Mohammed Amir Zakil Ahmed, Mohammed Zubir Sayad Anwar, Mohammed Muzafar Tanvir, Abdul Azim Jameel, Musthaz Ahmed Ishaq, David Ahmed Abdul Majeed, AZfzal Khan Nabir Khan, Riyaz Ahmed Mohmmed, Mohammed Sharif Sabeer Ahmed, Bilal Ahmed Abdul Razak and Sayyed Akif Sayyed Jafroddin.
The ATS, in its joint operation with the local police of Aurangabad on May nine, had arrested three terrorists including an activist of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) near the Ghrushneshwar temple at Verul village.
Later, the ATS arrested remaining eight persons and recovered arms and ammunition in three operations thereafter.
In all, ATS recovered 16 AK-47 rifles, 3,200 live catridges of AK-47, 62 magazines, 43 kg of explosive substances and 50 hand-grenades.
