Sultry weather again as temperature rises to 39.6 degree C
New Delhi, May 24 (UNI) After more than a week of pleasant weather, sultry weather resurfaced in Delhi with the mercury shooting up to nearly 40 Degree C, from a low of 35 Degree c yesterday.
Though mornings were pleasant with the minimum temperature rising just slightly to 20 Degree C, from 19 Degree C yesterday, the bright sunlight during the day, coupled with the high humidity level of 41 per cent, led to sultry conditions, pushing the maximum temperature upwards to 39.6 Degree C.
Though the temperature of 39.6 Degree C was still one degrees below normal, the significant rise in mercury from yesterday is neverthless indicative of a possibility of a return to scorching weather conditions in Delhi.
Weathermen say the sultry weather in the capital was largely due to a decrease in influence of the upper air cyclonic storm which has brought down the temperature in the capital for the most of last week as well as early this week.
Infact, the weather office has predicted a rise in maximum temperature to 40 Degree C tomorrow.
However, it would still be a while before Delhi witnesses a return to the "searing hot" weather that characterised a large part of April. For, the met office forecasts a partly cloudy sky with possibility of rain and thundershowers accompanied by squalls in some areas during the next 24 hours.
They have also predicted a drop in mercury to 37 Degree C on sunday with some showers for later this week.
Pleasant weather has been prevailing in the capital for some time now, a trend attributed to the upper air cyclonic movement originating from Rajasthan.
Clouds in the sky, coupled with rains early last morning, brought down the minimum temperature yesterday to 19 Degree C, eight degrees below normal, and the maximum temperature dropped to 35 degree C, nearly six degrees below normal.
Earlier, on Friday, squall with winds upto 62 kmph brought down temperature by eight degrees in the capital after early morning rains had lowered the mercury by two degrees.
This was followed by rain which lashed the national capital on Saturday evening. The rain brought the maximum temperature down to 37.6 degrees Celsius, about three degrees below recorded during this time of year, while the minimum was 22.1 degrees, five degrees below normal.
