Indian embassy sets up ''community zones'' in Bahrain

Dubai, May 24 (UNI) The Indian embassy has set up ''community zones'' and created a chain of communication with local authorities to protect the country's businessmen against vandals in the wake of criminal attacks on their shops in Bahrain.

''We have received complaints that many India businessmen, who run the all-purpose cold stores, face an increasing threat by criminals who attack them in their stores and rob them at knifepoint,'' Indian Ambassador Balkrishna Shetty told Bahrain Tribune yesterday.

He said to ensure that the embassy had access to help them all times, it created nodal points of contact with the Ministry of Interior in different parts of Bahrain and divided the Kingdom into zones, each with access to the neighbourhood police station. There are also designated community volunteers who would help them, including those harassed on false accusation of their being runaway workers or theft, contact the police.

Besides, ''nodal points'' have been set up with the Ministries of Labour and Justice as well as immigration authorities to speed up repatriation of Indians and settle any cases they may be facing.
