DPA condemns AIADMK boycott of Governor's address
Chennai, May 24 (UNI) Constituents of the Democratic Progressive Alliance, including the Congress and Left parties, today assailed the AIADMK-led Opposition for boycotting the Governor's address to the state Assembly.
Congress Legislature Party leader D Sudharsanam said the AIADMK legislators should have listened to the address. They could not expect the new Government to implement all its promises within a few days, he told reporters outside the Assembly complex.
Hailing the announcements made in the Governor's address, he said it showed that the state and Central governments were functioning in coordination in implementing welfare schemes.
Pattali Makkal Katchi floor leader G K Mani said the address contained many of the party's poll promises including 'metro rail' project and introduction of Tamil as a compulsory subject in schools.
Condemning the AIADMK's boycott as 'shameful and undemocratic,' he said it was against the tradition followed in the House.
CPI(M) floor leader Govindasamy and CPI leader V Sivapunniyam also condemned the walk out, saying it showed that the AIADMK was adopting politics of vendetta.
