Contempt notice to UP govt for not holding local bodies polls

Allahabad, May 24 (UNI) Allahabad High Court has issued contempt notice to Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Naveen Chandra Bajpai, secretary local bodies Dinesh Chandra Mishra and state election commissioner Aparmita Prasad Singh for not holding local bodies elections, despite a the HC order.

Justice D P Singh passed the order in a contempt petition filed by Rakesh Kumar Singh of Etah district.

He had contended that the opposite parties had failed to hold the local bodies polls, despite the December 22, 2005 HC order.

The judge asked the opposite parties to file counter affidavit in the case within July 14, 2006 or else charges may be framed against them.

However, the court has given one more opportunity to them to comply with the order by the date fixed.

An HC division bench on December 22 last year had directed for holding election of local bodies in UP, but the order was not complied with.
