BKU gives ultimatum till June 30 to waive off farmers' loan
Chandigarh, May 24 (UNI) The Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU)- Punjab unit today threatened to hold 'chakka jam' in the state if the Punjab government did not waive off the loans taken by the farmers by June 30.
This was resolved at the BKU delegate meeting held at Gurdwara Alamgir here which was chaired by Prof Manjit Singh Kadian.
In case the government failed to take a decision on waiving the farm loans, the farmers across the state would hold 'chakka jam' on July ten, Mr Kadian here said after the meeting.
The BKU also demanded that the minimum support prices of the main wheat and paddy crops keeping in mind the prevailing price index.
It may be recalled that the farmers of Punjab had been demanding the waiving of farm loans in the wake of the severe agriculture crisis in the state.
