BJP demands resignation of Govt; predicts early polls in Goa
Panaji, May 24 (UNI) Goa BJP president Rajendra Arlekar today predicted early polls to the State Legislative Assembly with inter and intra-party squabbles among coalition partners, resulting in instability of the year-old Pratapsinh Rane Government.
Mr Arlekar also reiterated his demand for resignation of the Government, besides removal of ''undemocratic and partisan Governor'' S C Jamir, who he said should not be given any gubernatorial post elsewhere to prevent misues of power.
He told mediapersons at the party headquarters here today that there was no achievement of Rane Government worth mentioning, even as internal squabbles within the ruling Congress intensified, affecting day-to-day administration in the island state.
''I doubt whether a government exists in Goa or not, with none bothered to resolve the real problems of the people, as the coalition partners, particularly the Congress, dabbling in internecine squabbles hankering for power through toppling games,'' he said.
There is virtually no administration in Goa with ministers vying for Chief Minister's post and internecine squabbles reeking the party politics as could be seen following Town and Country Planning Minister Babush Monserate making a vain attempt to meet the party high command in Delhi yesterday, as a part of his power hungry politics, Mr Arlekar said.
Reiterating that the BJP, as an effective opposition, was not at all interested in any ''toppling game,'' he said the party was preparing to face the elections which were due mid next year, even as it intensified its agitation for new airport at Mopa in North Goa and strengthening the existing airport at Dabolim in South Goa.
The two-day national executive of the BJP in Delhi from May 24 would chalk out a strategy for organisational elections soon, he said.
Meanwhile, the Goa party unit has decided to organise dharnas to protest the failure of the UPA government in effectively tackling terrorist attacks on Hindu community in the beleagured Kashmir valley.
The demonstrations, as a part of the nationwide programme, would be organised in front of the district collectorates at Margao and Panaji tomorrow and day after, respectively, he added.
