Air India passengers had narrow escape at Amritsar airport

Amritsar, May 24 (UNI) The passengers aboard the Air India 187 Delhi-Amritsar-Toronto flight had a narrow escape when the tyres of the plane caught fire while landing at the Raja Sansi airport here today.

There were nearly 200 passengers on board the Boeing 773 when the mishap occurred at 0830 hrs.

The flight was then delayed for about ten hours, while the passengers exchanged heated words with the cabin crew and the airport staff.

According to the incharge V K Molekar, the tyres had caught fire due to heat generated during the landing.

The flight finally took off for Toronto in the evening after the passengers were shifted to another Air India plane which had arrived from Toronto.

The tyres of AI 187 were changed and the passengers from Toronto were sent to Delhi in that flight.
