World Bank to consider Rs 5,000 cr assistance to UP
Lucknow, May 23 (UNI) Appreciating the increased growth rate in Uttar Pradesh, World Bank (WB) today assured the state government to consider providing Rs 5,000 crore financial assistance for water structure restructuring irrigation project in UP.
In addition, the Bank would also consider offerring maximum financial help for other WB schemes including medical and health sector.
This was stated by WB Country Director Michael Carter, who called upon state chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav here.
He also appreciated the progress in sectors of irrigation, road, sodic land reforms and health system development project. ''The strides made in these sectors will help other follow-up projects also.'' Praising the contribution of WB in the development of the state, Mr Yadav hoped it would continue its cooperation according to the needs and aspirations of UP's large population.
Mr Carter assured that WB would continue its efforts for making UP a prosperous state on the basis of its experiences. The CM said UP would also consider WB suggestions and recommondations seriously.
The WB official said projects worth Rs 10,000 crore were being implemented in UP, of which four projects were directly financed and several others running with the help of the union government.
Earlier, Mr Yadav said after his government came to power, the growth rare had increased from 0.1 per cent to 6 per cent.
