UPA performance good, except on terrorism: Dasmunsi
New Delhi, May 23: Parliamentary Affairs Minister P R Dasmunsi today said the UPA government's performance has been good in every field during the past two years except in case of terrorism.
''Our performance has been good in every field, except terrorism which we have been able to marginally reduce but not able to curtail it significantly,'' Mr Dasmunsi told reporters on the second anniversary of the UPA government for which the Prime Minister has invited all the UPA MPs and Left leaders.
He denied that the doctors' agitation on the reservation issue has anyway affected the celebration of the anniversary.
Asked about the possibility of the government bringing an ordinance on the reservation issue after the Parliament session was adjourned tomorrow, Mr Dasmunsi said that these are all speculations.
He said the government was legally and constitutionally empowered to bring any ordinance, but whatever decision would be taken it will be conveyed to all.
About whether the Prime Minister has started discussing the issue of reservation with various political parties, he said the process has not started yet. CPI(M) leader Prakash Karat had met the Prime Minister this morning, he admitted but said that the issue of deliberation was not known.
Defending the government's position on rising prices, the minister said the rising petroleum prices in the global market was the singlemost important factor responsible for it. The rising crude prices and increase in the Minimum Support Price and cost of transportation were responsible for it.
However, a good monsoon and buffer stock would bring stability in the market and reverse the trend of inflation, he hoped.
About the Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline, the minister said the government removed all the diplomatic hurdles and now only the finding the money for investment into the gas pipeline was left. He said despite nuclear issue, Iran never deviated from its position on the gas pipeline.
Criticising the opposition, Mr Dasmunsi said the BJP, which had paraded its Jharkhand MLAs before the President, had not been able to keep its flock together.
